We are delighted that you want to join the team of volunteers at Houston’s First Baptist Church! Below, you can preview several opportunities to volunteer, ranging from one-time events to on-going commitments, from behind-the-scenes tasks to front-and-center positions, from working with preschoolers to working with senior adults! With this variety, you are sure to find an area that best fits your interests, gifts, and availability. Not sure what your gifts are? We can help with that, too!

What are your gifts?

If you are unaware of your spiritual gifts, heart passions or personality traits, we offer a confidential spiritual gifts assessment free of charge complements of Houston's First! While completion of this assessment is not required to volunteer, it can better assist you in determining where to serve with your spiritual gifts.

The assessment contains 5 sections and normally takes 45 minutes to an hour to complete. Your results will immediately and ONLY be sent to the Prayer, Missions & Connection Center staff of Houston’s First. It is vital that you include all demographic information (i.e. name, contact information, etc.). Your personal information will not be used for any purpose other than to identify who you are.

Ready to take the assessment? Here’s what to do:

Go to the OnLine Spiritual Gifts Assessment form.
In the area labeled “Activation Code” enter this code: YourPlaceAtHFBC (If you have trouble after you enter the code once, please contact Malcolm Marshall at 713.335.6453 or Malcolm.Marshall@HoustonsFirst.org for assistance. Reentering the code will cause us to be charged for a second assessment.)
Be sure to answer all the questions and complete all the assessment sections.
When you’re done, click "FINISHED" after the Life Experience Section.

You will be able to print out your results when finished. If you have any questions about your gifts, contact Malcolm Marshall in the Prayer, Missions & Connection Center.

If you've completed the online Spiritual Gifts Assessment, we encourage you to sign up for this Missional Milestones course. Led by Malcolm Marshall, Minister of Assimilation, the course will help you answer the question, "What can I do to make a lasting difference in the lives of others?" Completing the online assessment is a requirement to register.

Lord's Supper Preparation Team
Adult Enrichment
Description: Volunteers are needed on a quarterly basis to assist in preparing the communion elements to be used in all three worship services. We also need assistance with the removal of the cups and trays at the end of the evening service on Sunday night.
Men’s Prayer Team
Men’s Ministry
Description: As Pastor Gregg challenges our church to become a House of Prayer, the men’s prayer team is calling for every man of every generation and every demographic to gather together as we seek the Lord in prayer.
Faith Center Computer Ministry
The Faith Center
Description: Volunteer teachers are needed to teach MS Word, MS Excel, OS/Maintenance/Anti-virus, Internet/Email/Facebook on Saturday mornings to HFBC Senior Adults.
Friendly Faces
Special Events
Description: Volunteers are needed from time to time to greet guests as they arrive for concerts, conferences and other large meetings. On some occasions we will collect the offering, hand out programs and give directions around the building. Overall, our Friendly Faces will be the first touch to many first-time guests!
Creative Arts Team: Camera Operator
Production
Description: Volunteers will use industry standard professional video cameras to creatively capture elements in specials events and services to be broadcasted and/or recorded.

Emergency Team
Systems
Description: Doctors, nurses and other trained medical personnel are needed to provide on-call care during Sunday services and other church-wide events.

1. Explore the List

The list is in alphabetical order by department. Once you’ve explored the opportunities, take time to prayerfully consider where God wants you to serve.

2. Tell Us Your Interests

When you’re ready to Get In The Game, click one of the “Get Involved” links. You’ll be taken to a short form asking you to provide basic information about who you are and to indicate up to three volunteer opportunities that interest you. Submitting the form simply tells us that you’re interested and that you want more information.

3. Talk With a Team Leader

After you submit the form, a volunteer team leader will contact you within a few days about taking the next step. This may be a one-on-one meeting, or a group meeting with other interested soon-to-be volunteers!

It’s no secret to the Houston's First family that great things happen when God’s people come together to do His work for His kingdom. No matter what your vocation, gifts, interests, passions, personality traits or availability may be, there is a place for you to Get In The Game! Thanks for taking this first step toward serving at our church—whether it’s for the first time or yet another role in a lifetime of volunteering.
