Compassionate, Competent and Confidential Christian Counseling

The purpose of the Julianna Poor Memorial Counseling Center is to provide biblically based, clinically competent, and Spirit-sensitive counseling, promoting the emotional, psychological, and spiritual health of individuals, marriages, and families. We seek to help with personal and interpersonal problems through the application of biblical truths. The Bible and the Holy Spirit are the primary agents in counseling and teaching.


Professional Services


Compassionate, competent, and confidential Christian counseling. Also offered are diagnostic assessment, consultation, preparation for marriage classes, and referral to specialists in the community. Additionally, counselors are available to teach classes and present seminars on a wide variety of topics to church related groups. Frequently requested topics include addictive behaviors, marriage and family enrichment, money management, parenting issues, separation and divorce, spiritual concerns, and vocational/educational choices. Issues requiring long term care are referred to alternate community resources.

  • First H.O.P.E. Job Ministry

    1st Sat of Every Month @ 9 am-Noon –
    Rm 602

    Ministry that is designed to help individuals in pursuing a job through offering interviewing skills, resume writing, and job postings. It meets once a month on the morning of the first Saturday of the month.

    Program designed for couples who are engaged to get married. A great first step towards investing into your lives together consists of counseling and workshop or 2 on 2 mentoring.

Milestone Courses


Simply stated, Milestones is a framework for how HFBC’s ministries and programs can better equip members of the body of Christ—from birth to adulthood—to take their unique place as part of a relevant biblical community. The Julianna Poor Memorial Counseling Center is located at 7401 Katy Fwy, Houston, TX within Houston’s First Baptist Church on the sixth floor in Suite 600. Use the bank of three elevators near the southwest entrance of the church.

Fees


Counseling services are offered to Houston’s First Baptist Church members and students of First Baptist Academy at the reduced rate of $40 per session. Non-members are charged $80 for each session. All counselees who receive testing or who require reports or court testimony are charged additional fees for these services. Sessions are 45 minutes in length. We only accept cash or check for payments.

All sessions are by appointment only; evening and weekend sessions are available on a limited basis. You can schedule an appointment by calling 713.335.6461.


Please print and fill out the intake form on our Forms page. If you are an adult, use the Adult Intake Form. If you are bringing in your child, please fill out the Child Intake Form. On the Counseling Center Team page you will find information about our counselors. At the bottom of each counselor’s information there is an Informed Consent PDF that you need to print two copies of, read, sign and bring in with you to your visit. If you are unable to print the forms you will need to come in 20 minutes prior to your scheduled appointment to complete the paperwork.
