Foundations in Caring for the Vulnerable
Wednesdays, Jan 24–Feb 28 @ 6:30–8p — The Loop Campus (Rm 333)

This short course will provide knowledge, insight and practical tools into what it looks like to live out sacrificial love within the context of working among vulnerable children & their families.

This is an amazing opportunity for anyone interested in volunteering with Legacy 68:5 or participating in a mission trip that serves caregivers of vulnerable children!


Exploring Adoption and Foster Care

Our desire is to come alongside families at any point in their journey whether they are just exploring adoption and foster care or they are farther down the road.

We have created an online class for those in the early stages of exploration that will allow you to hear testimonies from members of our own church who have walked through the process of adoption and/or foster care, will help you process your motivations and expectations as well speak to the cost and other significant factors to consider.

Life in Limbo

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to be a child in foster care? Or a foster parent? Or how a mom can lose her child to foster care.

Life in Limbo is an interactive workshop by Fostering Great Ideas. In this role play about foster care, participants step into the shoes of birth parents, foster parents, and the displaced children – and learn what it feels like to live their lives. The 90-minute Life in Limbo workshop is transforming for all, whether you are just beginning foster care awareness or are looking for an advocacy or training tool for an established ministry or organization.

Participants grow in empathy for all affected as they learn about the complexities of the child protective system and how to advocate for these children. Today, over 7,000 people have participated in the dynamic experience of Life in Limbo – in the US, Guatemala, Mexico and Peru. To learn more about Life in Limbo, click here.

Trauma Competent Caregiver

Available in Spanish & in English

Orphans and vulnerable children have experienced traumatic events in their lives, such as abandonment, loss, abuse and neglect. These forms of trauma have the potential to impact every developmental area of a growing child. It can change a child at the core of who they are, impacting how they communicate, attach and behave. Due to past trauma, orphans and vulnerable children have unique needs requiring intentional caregiving strategies.
Moving from being consciously compassionate to competently compassionate is the heartbeat of the Trauma Competent Caregiver training curriculum. It is designed to equip those involved in caring for orphaned and vulnerable children with the knowledge and skills God uses to help wounded children heal and grow into what they were created to be.

Trauma Competent Caregiver for Educators

Many children have experienced traumatic events in their lives such as abandonment, loss, abuse, and neglect. All children have experienced living through a global pandemic. These forms of trauma have the potential to impact every developmental area of a growing child. It can change a child at the core of who they are, impacting how they communicate, attach, and behave.

This training is geared specifically toward teachers and administrators and helps all educators learn how they can best reach and teach students who have experienced trauma. Moving from being consciously compassionate to competently compassionate is the heartbeat of the Trauma Competent Caregiver training curriculum.

6 CPE hours for Texas teachers are available for this course.

Empowered to Connect: Cultivate Connection Course

Cultivate Connection is a peer to peer parenting course facilitated BY parents FOR parents!

There are seasons of parenting that are overwhelming and leave us weary. For many of us, we find ourselves there now. Cultivate Connection provides the community and support you need, right where you are. Join us as we go on a deep dive into the building blocks of a flourishing family. The course gives helpful parenting practices and strategies for kids of all ages, with plenty of time to discuss ideas and ask questions along the way. These practical skills are rooted in research on brain based parenting, attachment, trauma, sensory processing, and more. The purpose of Cultivate Connection is to empower parents and caregivers to be confident, calm, curious, compassionate and connected.
