In 2008, Houston’s First Baptist Church laid a "foundation of prayer" during the renovation of the Worship Center by writing the names of thousands of people on the concrete floor before the carpet was installed. Since the Worship Center reopened that September, we have literally been "praying over" these names asking God to "open their eyes" and turn to Him. We have celebrated with many of the people behind those names as they've come to know the Lord and follow up with baptism in our Worship Center!
On Nov 7, 2010, the Houston's First family will once again lay a "foundation of prayer." This time, we will do so in the renovated and expanded Preschool & Kindergarten and Children's Ministries areas. The entire church family is invited to write the names of children on the foundation that day. No matter what the relationship may be, write their names so our church family can pray over them, as well: children and grandchildren, nieces and nephews, brothers and sisters, students and neighbors -- even children you may one day have in your life!
The following questions and answers will explain more about this special day in the life of our church.
When can I write the names?
Levels 1 & 2 of the west wing of the building will be open Sun, Nov 7, from 8 am-1 pm and again from 4:30 pm-8:30 pm. You are welcome to come and write names at any time during these hours. If the Lord places another name on your heart, come back and write it on the foundation, as well. There is no limit on the number of visits you make or names you write.
How will I write the names?
Markers will be provided for your use. Volunteers can assist you with writing names on the foundation if physical limitations prevent you from doing so yourself.
Are children allowed to participate?
Yes! The construction zone will be made a safe environment for people of all ages. (Of course, please keep your eye on your child!) Children are welcome to write names of their friends, siblings and any other child for whom they are praying.
Will I be asked to wear any protective gear to enter the construction area?
No. Our general contractor is preparing the space to be a safe environment for everyone to enter even though the renovation is still underway. Hard hats and safety goggles will not be required!
What if I am not able to be at Houston's First on Nov 7?
Volunteers will write names on the floor on your behalf if you are unable to do so yourself. To submit names, fill out the form below by Sat, Nov 6.
