Houston Project - Jul 8-12

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: When is the Houston Project?

A: The Houston Project takes place the evenings of Jul 8-12. Many sites set up or have activities the afternoon/evening of Sun, Jul 8. Ministry begins at each site around 5p each evening Mon-Thu, so come when you can after work. Ministry wraps up by dark.

Q: What types of ministry can I participate in?

A: Choose from Vacation Bible School, Youth Ministry, Adult Ministry, Food Distribution, Prayer, Evangelism, or Transportation. Some ministry sites may have ministry opportunities unique to their needs, as well. Please see this site list for more details on the focus of each site.

Q: Where do we meet?

A: You will meet at your ministry sites each night during the Houston Project. Your site leader may coordinate carpool plans if parking spaces are limited.

Q: Are there meetings before the Houston Project?

A: Yes! As Houston Project gets closer to starting, we will post a list of dates to mark on your calendar.

Q: What if I can't come every night? Can I come late?

A: Come when you are available! It is not a requirement to participate every night during the Houston Project, and site leaders will accommodate those who cannot arrive right on time.

Q: Can my kids come?

A: Yes! We encourage you to bring your kids with you and to serve alongside you during the Houston Project. Some sites also have nursery rooms available for younger children.

Q: What does the cost cover? And how much does it cost?

A: The registration fee provides food for those at the ministry sites (and the volunteers), t-shirts, ministry supplies, van and tent rentals, etc.

Q: What do I wear?

A: Please wear your Houston Project t-shirt and comfortable clothes when at the ministry site.

Q: When can I pick up my t-shirt?

A: T-shirts can be picked up every Sunday in the main foyer or in the missions office beginning May 1 (you must register to receive a shirt).

Q: Why do I need a background check/waiver of confidentiality?

A: It is standard church policy to run a background check on any adult working with children. If you have completed one within the last 5 years, it is unnecessary to re-submit a background check. Participants under the age of 18 do not need a background check. Please note that social security number and driver's license number are required to process the form. You can return completed forms to Charlotte Nease in the missions office, fax it to 713.335.6451 (attn: Charlotte), or email it to Charlotte.Nease@HoustonsFirst.org.

Q: Can I donate to the Houston Project?

A: Yes! You can donate online to help provide scholarships for volunteers who are unable to pay for the Houston Project but still wish to participate. Donations are tax-deductible.

Q: I have a special talent (photography, videography, balloon animals, sports, etc)…how can I use my talents?

A: Please talk with your site leader to express your interest in using your gifts, talents, and abilities. They will be able to coordinate with you for site-specific needs.
