Mentorship

Stephen Ministry

Stephen Ministry equips lay people from the Houston's First congregation to provide confidential, one-to-one Christian care to individuals in the church and community who are experiencing difficulties in their lives. Stephen Ministers meet weekly with their assigned care receiver, listen to them and pray for them. They encourage them by providing emotional and spiritual care while faced with a crisis or difficulty such as:

  • Loneliness or discouragement
  • Spiritual Crisis
  • Unemployment or a job crisis
  • Relocation
  • Birth, adoption, miscarriage, or infertility
  • Loss of a loved one
  • Marriage difficulties, divorce or separation
  • Loss of independence
  • Hospitalization, chronic illness, cancer
