Mission 1:8 Celebration Sunday

Mar 24, 2013

The Houston's First family celebrated what God has done through MISSION 1:8 — so far — as the results from the pledge period were announced in each worship service on Sun, Mar 24. But unlike most "reveal" moments similar to this one, the number with the most zeroes wasn't the primary focus.

From the beginning, the focus of MISSION 1:8 has been about more than just the dollars being raised to fund the current ministry of Houston's First and the additional missional endeavors the Lord was leading us to pursue.

The other desired outcome was to increase the individual generosity of our church family members. As Pastor Gregg reminded us, stewardship and discipleship go hand in hand. Giving back to God what He has given to us is an act of worship and obedience, and a sign of spiritual growth and maturity.

So on MISSION 1:8 Celebration Sunday, we began by celebrating the increased sacrifice and generosity of our church family. As of Thu, Mar 21, here's how people indicated their financial commitment moved them on the generosity ladder:

As the congregation stood to celebrate this growth among our members and the number of first time givers, Pastor Gregg revealed the largest number.

Over the next two years, we have commitments and expected gifts of $71,010,058!

That is $11,000,000 beyond the MISSION 1:8 goal of $60,000,000. The goal amount included $45,000,000 for current ministry efforts and operating expenses and $15,000,000 for additional missional endeavors among the poor, widows, orphans, and prisoners, and in our city, our nation, and our world.

What is God preparing Houston's First to do? Only He knows at this point, and we will faithfully seek His will in the years to come. For now, we are thanking Him and celebrating this mighty movement among our church family!
