A New Way Course on Spiritual Friendship

Here at Houston's First Baptist Church in the spring and fall the church offers Milestones classes. The staff of the Julianna Poor Memorial Counseling Center offers the Soul Care Experience Course based on Larry Crabb’s book SoulTalk and the workbook Soul Care Experience to whoever is stirred to want to learn more about spiritual community. The course covers 13 weeks and meets regularly on Wednesday nights 6:30-8:30 pm during the semester. As we meet each week the class follows a time of reviewing the previous week’s assignment with discussion and teaching, then a time to watch a video, discussion of video, and then a time of triad discussion. These triads are a time to begin to practice this New Way of relating. This isn’t something that a person can “master” and become the “expert” but each of us will journey together to try to better understand what it means to “truly” experience another person. The class closes after the 2nd week to build to trust in triads.
