WHAT ARE WE DOING?
There are several orphanages and orphan ministries we are participating with to help them in their work. Some of these organizations are shown below.
Kinangop, Kenya, Africa
Local Texan, Mike Eden, went to Kenya with his church in 2000 and came home a changed man after seeing all the orphaned children due to the AIDS epidemic. God gave him a clear vision to build a home for these children in need. Little Eden Children’s Home opened in 2009 and strives to provide spiritual, physical, and intellectual care for over 80 children rescued from hopeless situations.
Little Eden has become a light for the entire community by providing clean water, medical care, AIDS testing, improvements to education, and much more. They are seeking to become completely self-sustaining by raising animals and growing crops that provide fresh meat, milk, and vegetables for all the children and staff. Income is generated for Little Eden by selling a portion of these animals and crops to surrounding villages.
Nakuru, Kenya, Africa
Another local Texan, Trena Ivy, was moved by God to help children in need in Kenya. After living in the country and serving as a missionary in other organizations, she saw a great need for infant orphan care. Infant care is more expensive than older childcare due to the formula, diapers, and staff needed. There was a real gap in the system for babies, and God led Trena to open a “baby house” called Haven of Hope.
After getting the baby house up and running in Nakuru, Trena is reaching out to her local community in many ways to share the love of Christ. She began a ministry for single mothers called His Cherished Handworks. With basically no income to provide for their children, these ladies are now handknitting items for sale so they can feed their own children. Also, with the help of her staff, Trena has brought in 5 young men found homeless in her community. They are now learning about how much God loves them through the provisions and relationship of His Cherished Ones. They refer to Trena as “mom” and attend school and now have a home just like other boys in the community.
Local Texan, Jane Gravis, established Into Abba's Arms in May of 1999 after a calling from the Lord to help the homeless children of Kenya. Through Christ's provision, Into Abba's Arms is establishing a haven of comfort, hope, and love for children in need. Their purpose is to help these children develop their identities in Christ and to nurture their desire to be channels for sharing God's goodness and grace.
Their work focuses in these areas: To provide a loving home environment for orphans who are left with no parents or families, to reach out to the surrounding community in the name of Christ, and to take mission teams from the US to minister to the orphans, the surrounding community and other orphanages struggling to provide for their orphans.
Russian Orphanage Trips
HFBC member Sue Marshall began working with orphans in Russia in 2000 and has led mission trips on behalf of HFBC for the past 11 years. In 2008, she formed the Fory Charitable Trust, named for Wilma Fory as provided for in her Will and with funds provided to continue Sue's work with orphans in Russia.
The Trust has 4 major purposes.
1. To improve the quality of life for orphans and children at risk of being orphaned by providing humanitarian aid, improvements to facilities, and sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ with orphanages in Russia
and Ukraine.
2. To provide financial support for families who are adopting children from Russia or Ukraine. So far, funds have been provided to two families. The first family adopted their special needs daughter from Ukraine and the second family is in the final stages of adopting their new daughter from an orphanage in Russia.
3. To provide scholarships to young people that were adopted from Russia or Ukraine or who have immigrated from those countries to assist them in pursuing degrees from an institution of higher learning.
4. To encourage, support, and lead mission trips to work with orphanages in Russia and Ukraine.

Our church has gone to Acuna to help with remodeling and clean up of the Manto Coahula Children’s Home.
God has given us the opportunity and privilege to care for and build into the lives of 35 wonderful girls from 5 to 18 years of age. Some of our children have no parents. Some are from very poor families where they are not even able to get one meal a day and some only have a mother who is very poor. They are cared for with love and attention. Their spiritual formation is a key area of focus for us as we reflect to them love and character of our Lord. We provide for their education, boarding and lodging. This is their home and we feel blessed for what God has allowed and enabled us to do.
A ministry providing Christ’s love, healing and hope to children of San Salvador.
