What should I wear?
Where do I park?
Will I find a seat?
Is there something for my kids?
Maybe you are returning to church, or coming to church for the very first time. Or, maybe you're an active church member who just moved to town and needs to find a new church home. Whatever your story may be, you probably have a lot of questions before you visit Houston's First Baptist Church.
Here's our attempt to guess what's on your mind and answer your questions. If we've missed something, let us know! You're probably not the only one with that question, so asking us will help us help you and future guests.
What is your Sunday schedule?
Worship services are held at 9:30 am, 11 am and 6:30 pm. Sunday Bible studies meet at 8:20 am, 9:30 am, 10:45 am and 5:15 pm.
What do I wear?
You'll see people in everything from shorts to suits on Sundays. Our concern isn't what's on the outside, but what's on inside. Come as you are. Besides, Jesus accepts us as we are when we come to Him. Why shouldn't we?
Where do I park?
We set aside reserved parking for first time guests in our west parking lot -- conveniently across the street from our main entrance. Parking lot attendants will direct you to a spot just for you. General parking is also available in other parts of the west and south parking lots, and we even have off-site parking nearby. Refer to the campus map to see where each of these options is located.
Is there anything for my children?
Of course! We have Sunday options for newborns through high school seniors, including special times of worship designed just for the younger kids:
- HeartLand is for preschoolers ages 4 and 5 at 10:45 am in Room 217
- Kids' Worship is for Kindergartners through 4th graders at 9:30 am in The Clubhouse (Room 303)
Our online listing of Sunday Bible studies provides more detail about what's available for all children, no matter what their age may be. (By the way, if you're wondering about your college students or single adult children, we have options for them, too!)
How will I find a Bible study?
Take a look at our online listing of classes. That could give you some idea as to where you might want to go. On Sunday, stop by the Welcome Centers in the Main Foyer and the Christian Life Center (CLC) Lobby. A Welcome Team member can show you a listing of Sunday Bible studies, including a map of where each one is located. Believe us -- our goal is get every guest and member into a Sunday Bible study so we'll go out of our way to help you get connected!
Your building is huge. How will I find my way around?
A thorough wayfinding system with great maps and signage will help a lot. But the best way is to stop by the Welcome Center in the Main Foyer or the Christian Life Center (CLC) Lobby. Our volunteer Welcome Team members (in snazzy blue shirts) will love to show you where you're going -- and even walk with you to make sure you find your way. On top of that, our Sunday worship guide and Bible study option sheet handouts include maps of the building.
In the church I grew up in, some people had "their" seats. What if I unknowingly sit in somebody's seat?
Don't worry about it. Sit wherever you want. Nobody has a claim on a seat. In fact, we'll even let you save seats for your family and friends!
May I bring my venti, three-pump vanilla, two-pump caramel, non-fat, no foam, extra hot, upside-down, stirred, extra-extra caramel drizzle, caramel machiatto into church?
Yes -- but only if you bring one for the rest of us. (Just kidding, of course. Kinda.) Yes, you may bring your drink with you. However, be sure to finish it before you enter the Worship Center. That's the one place food and beverages are not permitted. By the way, why not save your money and get coffee at church? It's free and usually comes with a doughnut!
