"My help and glory are in God- granite strength and safe-habor God- so trust him absolutely, people; lay your lives on the line for him. God is a safe place to be."
God is a safe place to be. Join us for the Women's Retreat Fri, Oct 19–Sat, Oct 20, 2018. More details to come!
Laura Seifert, Retreat Speaker
Laura Seifert has been involved in ministry for over 20 years. She has a passion for teaching women and helping them access the profound truths of God’s Word. Laura is the founder of Yes. ministries, a discipleship ministry in Houston, TX. Laura teaches bible studies throughout the greater Houston area and also enjoys speaking at numerous women’s events and retreats each year. Laura is married to a wonderful man, Jason, who serves as Associate Pastor of Antioch Community Church - Houston. The two enjoy spending time together with their children, Ben and Beth.
Peggy Bain, Guest Speaker
Peggy is from Ft Worth, graduated from Baylor, got married and moved to Houston and joined Houston’s First Baptist Church in 1970. She has 3 kids and 6 grandkids that keep her “busy and broke!” She coached and taught PE in Jr High for 20 years and is now thankfully retired! Photography, traveling and watching her grandkids play their sports keep her out of trouble...well, sort of!!
Janet Taylor Coleman, Guest Speaker
Janet is a member of Houston’s First for over 40 years, she loves studying God’s word and sharing the hope of her salvation and the power of His Presence.
Peggy Jones, Guest Speaker
Peggy Jones is a native Houstonian, a graduate of Houston Baptist University with graduate studies in Marriage and Family Counseling at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. She married her college sweetheart, Rick in 1971. He has been the Minister of Pastoral Care at HFBC for twenty nine years. Peggy has served alongside Rick in his ministry. In the 80’s she served as headmaster of two separate Christian grade schools and ended her career in education as Director of Admissions and Counseling at Houston’s First Baptist Northwest Academy, leaving to return to a career as a licensed interior designer, events and wedding planner which she has done for 45 years. The Lord has blessed her with creativity and an abundance of energy (which really wears out her family). For the past eight years, she has served as the coordinator for Hope House Ministry, Can Hope, Stephen Ministry and Phase 2 Widows/Widowers Ministry (and as liaison to MenServe, working with the Men’s Ministry leadership to coordinate the work in the homes of our widows, widowers and elderly)
Debbie Brown, Associate Director of Fitness & Recreation
Debbie has been a leader in the Fitness & Recreation Center (FRC) since 1996, teaching Pilates, strength and step classes. She enjoys watching God move in her ministry through the dynamic FRC team, one that encourages and challenges members of the FRC. Debbie also gets the opportunity to speak at conferences helping others to lead their fitness programs more effectively.
Kelly Matte, Retreat Devotional
Kelly Matte and Pastor Gregg, her husband since 1997, have been serving at Houston's First Baptist Church since 2004. Kelly loves God's Word and has a gift of sharing it with others, both one-on-one and in Bible study settings. She and Gregg are the parents of a son, Greyson, who is a Junior in high school, and a daughter, Valerie, who is in 5th grade. Her greatest joy comes from being a supportive wife to Gregg and a loving mother to her children.
Dora Bolin, Worship Leader
Born in Oradea, Romania, Dora and her family fled the communist regime for the religious freedom America had to offer. She has 15 years of experience leading worship in multicultural settings. She is a graduate of Belmont University and holds a Bachelors in Entertainment & Music Business as well as Entrepreneurship. Dora has 10 years of experience working in Publicity and Radio Promotions in the Christian Music Industry in Nashville, TN. During that time, she released her first solo record, continued touring with her music ministry and recorded background vocals for Country and Christian music artists. Her heart for the nations has provided 10 years of experience planning and leading international and national choir tours and mission journeys to Asia, Africa and the Middle East. In 2012, Dora returned to her hometown of Houston where she married her husband David and now serves with the FIRST|WORSHIP team at Houston’s First Baptist Church.
Keri Lilley, Worship Leader
Keri Lilley has served the last 13 years as a Worship Leader at Clear Creek Community Church, a multi-campus church located in the Clear Lake, Friendswood, & League City area. Prior to and during that time, she has had the opportunity to lead worship for many churches and events nationally. Keri holds a bachelor’s degree from Houston Baptist University, plays the piano, and knows approximately 4 chords on the guitar. You might recognize her last name. Her father, Larry Lilley, who passed away in 2016 was on staff at Houston's First for almost 25 years and her mother, Pat Lilley, currently teaches a class there each Sunday and is possibly the cutest person ever to walk the halls of Houston's First.
