Voter Information

Sep 24, 2018

Houston's First encourages all followers of Christ to faithfully research the candidates and options, prayerfully make their choices, then cast their vote.

Helpful information is offered here to help you prepare for the General Election in November, including:

Election Day itself is Tue, Nov 6, but Early Voting is available from Mon, Oct 22, through Fri, Nov 2. So, research the options, pray, and be prepared to cast your vote!

Voter Registration

Voters must be registered in order to vote in any election. The deadline to register or to update your current registration in time for the General Election in November is Tue, Oct 9. Voter registration applications can be found at U.S. Post Offices and most other government buildings.

  • If you are not already registered to vote and do not register by the Oct 9 deadline, you will not be able to vote in the General Election this November.
  • If you are already registered to vote but moved since the last election and do not update your registration with a new address, you will have to vote in the precinct in which you are registered. (If your new address is in the same county as the address where you are registered, you can vote at any of the Early Voting locations made available in your county.)

The Loop Campus

Volunteer voter registrars who have been deputized by Harris County will be available at The Loop Campus on Sun, Sep 30, and Sun, Oct 7, to provide voter registration cards and to receive completed registration cards. Stop by the Main Foyer or the Fitness & Recreation Center Lobby before or after each worship service on that Sunday.

Voter ID Requirements

In October 2014, the United States Supreme Court gave approval to a new voter ID law in Texas. Now, voters must present one of the following photo IDs when casting their vote in person:

  • Texas driver license issued by the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS)
  • Texas Election Identification Certificate issued by DPS
  • Texas personal identification card issued by DPS
  • Texas concealed handgun license issued by DPS
  • United States military identification card containing the person’s photograph
  • United States citizenship certificate containing the person’s photograph
  • United States passport

Learn more about the voter ID law at the Texas Secretary of State's website.

On The Ballots

Click your county to find sample ballots for where you are registered to vote. Every county presents ballots differently, so you might have to search by your registered address to find a ballot with your particular races and candidates.

Early Voting

Mon, Oct 22–Fri, Nov 2

Early Voting by personal appearance is available for registered voters in Texas from Mon, Oct 22, through Fri, Nov 2.

During this time, voters may vote at any of the designated Early Voting polling locations within the county in which they are registered to vote. The Early Voting polling locations are likely different from your designated General Election Day polling location, or even Early Voting locations that were available in previous elections.

Click your county for a list of Early Voting polling locations and their respective daily schedules:

Election Day Polling Locations

Tue, Nov 6

If you do not cast your vote during the Early Voting period, you will have to cast your vote in person at your designated polling location on General Election Day, Tue, Nov 6. Your General Election Day polling location is based on the address at which you are registered to vote.

Click your county to find your designated General Election Day polling location and its respective schedule. Keep in mind that polling locations often change from one election to the next. So, be sure to verify where you should go before heading to the polls!
