The Julianna Poor Memorial Counseling Center, Missions Department, and Life Bible Studies at HFBC have formed a partnership to provide a holistic approach in caring for those working either at home or abroad with different people groups.
The Counseling Center is a place where you can tell your story without fear or condemnation. We want to journey with you as you have journeyed with others and helped with their burdens. We provide individual, marriage, and family counseling for global workers who are residents of Texas or are affiliated with our church. We can provide this service face to face, via phone/internet and, in some situations, we can meet at an alternate location.
Through our partnership we have developed additional care options. We offer the opportunity for connection and community with other returned Global Workers in a Home Group Bible Study held every other Tuesday. One of the issues experienced by many returning from time away (be they global workers, Third-Culture-Kids, or expats) is that the friends and loved-ones left behind just don’t understand what you’ve been through. Sometimes, it’s good to be with like-minded people who have walked your same path. The Home Group is open to anyone – whether on short- or long-term home leave and whether serving on the global field domestically or abroad. Contact Shirley Ralston at firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
We will be hosting the first annual retreat this August. Currently the retreat is for couples and individuals in an overnight setting at the Hunt Retreat Center in Fulshear, TX. The retreat is focused on reconnecting as a couple or to friends and family, processing what has been going on, transitions, self-care, and other issues as they come up.
Below is an invitation to our next retreat on Aug 24–25, as well as the link to register.
You are personally invited to the first year of our Global Worker Care Retreat! The reason our Care Team created this event is because many of you have been using our counseling resources that we provide (on and off the field) and we wanted to take it a step even further! This Aug 24–25 we are providing a retreat which will be "24 hrs of Care" with a team of counselors all specialize and trained for on and off field debriefing and processing to help equip you for self care and sustainable ministry. The event will be held at Hunt Retreat, and you can learn about the venue here. To register for the retreat, click below:
We want you to know that you are not forgotten and that what you do is important. We want you to have a safe, confidential place to tell your story. If you have any other ideas as to ways we can serve those in your work, please let us know.
If you have any additional questions you can email Nikki.Soika@HoustonsFirst.org or call us at 713.335.6462.
