Rick has been a part of Houston’s First Baptist for over thirty-three years. Prior to coming to First, Rick had served the Lord in three other churches in southeast Texas as a church planter, a pastor, and an associate pastor. It has been an honor and great blessing for him to serve on staff here for more than twenty-five years.
Married for over forty-three wonderful years to Peggy, they have two married children; T.J. and Lorie Jones; and Amy and Richard Robeson; as well as a beautiful teenage granddaughter and four energy-packed grandsons. These ten special people are Rick’s joy and the motivation in his life!
Rick survived a major automobile accident in 1980 (he sustained a broken neck in three places, broken back, leg, jaws, and shoulder). Ten years later he was diagnosed with inoperable, terminal pancreatic cancer. Through the power, love, and grace of God he survived and continues to serve the church and his Lord and Savior.
As the “overseer” of the Pastoral Care Ministry, he and his staff are responsible for more than fourteen different ministries. But it is his incredible staff that makes all of these ministries successful and meaningful to every individual and family they serve through these varied areas of service and care. There are also more than 150 trained volunteers who give their time, energy, and God given talents to minister as part of the Pastoral Care team.
The Lord is his first love and the residual blessings of serving Him with his wife and family, through this church and Pastoral Care, is what life, to him, is all about! His life verse is Jeremiah 29:11 which sustained him during the difficult journey of healing broken bones and body and fighting cancer and restoration. “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord; plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
