The Internship

The Internship is a nine week summer program of Houston’s First Baptist Church. Our deepest desire is to see college students have an authentic encounter with Jesus and walk in the power of the Holy Spirit. We are looking for college students who are crazy enough to think they can be used to change the world. This Internship's sole purpose is to be a developmental program that equips current and future leaders for The Kingdom of God. We are only interested in the teachable who are eager to discover their personal strengths, spiritual gifting and life calling. At Houston's First, we want interns to walk out of their summer knowing WHO they are before deciding what they were created to DO.

The Purpose

The Internship is an investment. We are not about investing in programs - we are about investing in people. Jesus Christ lived life with twelve men who were used to change the world. We are convinced that interns living in community for one summer can have the same outcome. Our team wants to equip and empower college students to live out the Gospel wherever God might be taking them.

Distinctives

  1. Community — Interns will do this summer together, living in close and constant community.
  2. Houston — Interns will live in the heart of the most diverse city in the United States. They will learn how to engage such a diverse environment.
  3. Learning & Loving — Interns will be given unique opportunities to serve & learn alongside professionally trained missional leaders, thinkers, and motivators from across the world.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does a normal day look like?

Each day will be different. A typical day in The Internship will reflect the current season the program is in. There are typically 3 seasons each summer: teaching, resting, and ministry. Nonetheless a normal day could look like this: wake up, work out, eat breakfast, work in our Missions Office, lunch, afternoon teaching, dinner in city, ministry in the city, community free time, then bed. Some days will feature little to no free time, while other days feature a whole free day to live, read and enjoy community. Lastly, interns will live one day at a time, meaning they find out the schedule for their next day the night before.

Where will I live?

In the heart of our city in an area called the Houston Greater Heights. Inhabited with hipsters and young professionals, it is an area famous for being filled with architecture, Mom & Pop shops, restaurants, and coffee shops.

Do we get days off?

Interns will typically get one day off each week. Requests for additional days off for situations like family reunions and weddings (and other related events) will be evaluated on a case by case basis by leadership.

Are meals provided?

All meals are provided, except for meals on your days off.

Will I need a vehicle?

A vehicle is not required but can be beneficial on your days off. Interns will travel together all summer in a comfortable van.

What do I need to bring?

Upon acceptance you will receive a list of what to bring.
