Day of Pentecost

Begins in 01 mo 06 days 00 hrs 08 min

Did you know that if you’re a part of a faith community like ours, where we’ve got all kinds of diversity (i.e. geographic, linguistic, socioeconomic, cultural, gender, ethnic, familial, generational, diversity of national origin, etc.), you’re actually more likely to be a hospitable person?

Data from social scientists suggests that being around people who are different from you opens the door for your personal preferences and cultural norms to be challenged. The first step that must be made? Proactively engaging others who are not like you. That’s what the Day of Pentecost is all about: celebrating others by asking thoughtful questions. Making an honest effort to learn about more about the brothers and sisters of our church you normally do not interact with.

Pentecost commemorates the descent of the Holy Spirit on the disciples, and it marks the beginning of the Christian church's mission to the world which continues today. Like the early church, we acknowledge the delightful diversity of Christ’s Body. And what better way to do that than to have a celebratory Sunday!
