New Mission Trip to Our City

Jun 06, 2022

Stay Tuned For Details!

In the summer of 1997, a young single adult Life Bible Study hosted a Vacation Bible School for kids in a neighborhood inside the 610 Loop in Houston. The following summer, other young single adult classes and other church members joined in to expand their ministry impact.

Eventually, these intentional outreach efforts became GO Houston — our church's annual "mission trip to our city" — with numerous ministry sites throughout the greater Houston area and with volunteers from every campus of Houston's First.

Now, 25 years after this annual mission trip began and as we are in the middle of Kainos — a two-year vision for our church — we are taking a new (or kainos) approach to this churchwide initiative to share the love and truth of Jesus with our city.

Rather than having a week of ministry in July, the Houston's First family will be invited to serve this fall on a designated weekend in November.

The details of this weekend are still being finalized. While the specifics of what we do might differ from previous years, they will be driven by the same heart for missions and evangelism that has propelled our church's ministry to our city for over 180 years. We look forward to revealing the plan soon, and we know that the Houston's First family will rise up to step out and love our city in His name!

  • When will additional information be provided about November?
We plan to post an update the first week of July. That update will provide the date and other high-level information about the event. Details about our specific projects and ministries — and how to register — will coming in the following months.
  • Is every campus participating?
Yes! Every campus of Houston's First will be invited to participate in the November endeavor. The projects we're involved in will likely vary by campus, and campuses might have more than one type of ministry project or ministry location.
  • What if my Life Bible Study wants to continue with their annual project?
Great! Your Life Bible Study is welcome to continue with any projects you typically undertake during GO Houston. This should be seen as something in addition to what we will all be invited to do in November. Keep in mind that there is not a GO Houston budget to provide funding for your summer efforts.
  • Will children be able to participate in the November project?
Yes! There will be opportunities for children to serve along with their parents or adult family members.
