Jane Anderson, member since 2007

"Houston’s First has made a wonderful impact on my walk with the Lord. My faith in Christ is more real in my walk and in my love for the church. People considering joining Houston’s First should know that while here, they will truly learn that they can trust in Jesus and that God is faithful."

Jane has given life away through the 2nd Cup Coffee Ministry, Prayer Ministry, and as a Stephen Minister.

Tania Andrews, member since 2013

"Being a member of Houston’s First Baptist Church means being a part of a larger community of people who wants to celebrate the life of my Savior Jesus and spread the gospel of hope, faith and love. I take seriously the charge of going out into the world to spread the gospel by serving others, living my life from a place of love, kindness, forgiveness, and respect, and teaching others through my actions what loving God and others can be. At Houston’s First, your life may change in ways that you never considered, so be prepared to love in ways you’ve never experienced."

Tania has given life away through the First Friends Preschool & Kindergarten Ministry, FirstKids Children’s Ministry, Life Bible Study, and Houston 1:8.

Mikey Bagnasco, member since 2006

"Being a part of Houston’s First Baptist Church means being a part of the bride of Christ. As the bride of Christ, you're loved by a God who would rather die than see you heartbroken and hurt. The HUB Student Ministry is all I've been a part of for now, but God is just getting started with me. If you haven’t made Houston’s First your church, come on in! Everybody is welcome!"

Mikey has attended Houston’s First since he was born, and became a member in 2006 at the age of 9. He has given life away through The HUB at Rush Week, Rushmore, CRWTH, and in many other ways.

Ron P'Pool, member since 1980

"Through Houston’s First Baptist Church, God is touching this city, nation, and world in an exciting and dynamic way — and my family and I get to be a part of it! Whether you are single, married, young, mature, just establishing your walk with God, or a seasoned veteran of God's movement in your life, you'll find a place to serve and be served at Houston's First."

Ron is a Deacon who has given life away through Life Bible Studies, choir, Marriage Preparation ministry, missions, Staff Intercessory Prayer Team, and more. In April 2014, Houston’s First licensed him as a minister of the gospel.

Kevin Ha, member since 2006

"I knew from the moment our family first started attending Houston's First that this is a very special place and we needed to be a part of what God's doing here. In a church this BIG, I encourage you to find people who share similar passions then get to work living that out in your every day life. Our church friends have become an extension of our own family and doing life with them has been one of the many great joys of being a part of Houston's First."

Kevin has given life away as a teacher to 6th grade boys, Deacon, Director of a Married Young Adult Life Bible Study, prayer intercessor on the Staff Intercessor Prayer Team, and on the Leadership Team in the Men’s Ministry.

Teresa Triplett, member since 2013

"At Houston’s First, I have a church home with other people who also want to worship the Lord. You can grow further in your walk with Him because we offer many Bible studies and activities. There is a place for everyone here at Houston's First!"

Teresa has given life away helping cancer patients, as a Children’s Ministry volunteer, serving as a care leader in her Life Bible Study, hosting Bible studies and other events in her home, and serving at the Faith Center.

Carlos Gutierrez, member since 1986

"Houston’s First is a refuge. I can do it all here — study, share, serve, worship, and hang out with brothers, sisters, and friends. It’s like being at home. I encourage people new to Houston’s First to get involved! Join a Life Bible Study, the choir, volunteer somewhere — just serve then watch what God does in your life!"

Carlos has given life away as a Stephen Minister, Life Bible Study Director, Houston 1:8 missionary, and Welcome Team member.

A Place To Call Home

Learn about the biblical perspective and spiritual significance of church membership by watching or listening to Malcolm Marshall's message called "A Place To Call Home" below.

Path to Membership

Membership is open to anyone who has placed their faith in Jesus Christ alone for the forgiveness of sins and has been baptized by immersion by a body of believers.

Saving faith

Trusting in Jesus Christ alone for the forgiveness of sins. This decision is the beginning but not the ending of what it means to follow Christ. If you have not placed your faith in Jesus we can assist you with this spiritual decision.

Baptism

We view baptism as being an outward, visible demonstration of an inward spiritual transformation which comes about when one trusts in Christ alone for salvation. Our position of baptism by immersion is based on the following:

  • The word baptize (baptizo) in Greek means to “dip” or “immerse” under water.
  • Immersion best illustrates the believers identification with the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ. (Romans 6:1-11 and Colossians 2:12)
  • The descriptions of baptism in the New Testament suggest that people were immersed.
    (Matthew 3:6, John 3:23, Acts 8:38).

Start the conversation

At the end of a worship service, you'll be invited to come forward to get the conversation started about joining Houston’s First. After the service or at a later time, a staff member or volunteer will meet with you to hear your story and talk about what it takes to move forward as a healthy, contributing member of the church.

Make it your church

Although it is not required to join Houston's First, we highly encourage you to attend an upcoming session of Make It Your Church Orientation to discover more about what it means to be a member.

Offered at each campus over lunch or dinner, the gathering provides an opportunity to meet pastors and staff members as they share about the vision, mission, and strategy of the church and walk you through the Make It Your Church Orientation booklet.

While there, you can learn how you can find your place to gather, grow, and give at Houston's First — and meet other new folks, as well!
