John received his Master of Arts (MA) in Professional Counseling from Liberty University and holds a BA in Christian Ministries and Psychology from East Texas Baptist University. John is currently completing the requirements for Licensure as a Professional Counselor. He works with individuals, couples, adolescents, and groups whose lives have been disrupted by sexual addiction, infidelity, marital conflict, divorce, substance abuse, and past trauma.
John’s goal is to accept clients as Christ did, providing a safe, non-judgmental atmosphere in which they can explore, process and find freedom from the issues that hinder them from fulfilling their God-given roles. John's approach to counseling is founded on Biblical principles and uses a variety of approaches including: Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Solution-Focused Therapy (SFT), Somatic Experiencing, and Mindfulness strategies depending upon the needs of each client.
John places emphasis on educating his clients and equipping them with practical tools and strategies they can apply immediately. Once clients’ most pressing needs are addressed, he works with them to identify and process underlying issues (such as trauma, unresolved conflicts, resentments, ineffective coping skills, attachment issues, etc.) that often contribute to problematic behavior.
