The Houston’s First family is invited to this special gathering at 2p in the Worship Center at The Loop Campus as several church members are ordained as ministers of the Gospel or as Deacons at our church. Following the ordination, a reception will take place in the Main Foyer.
These men were elected Deacons in Church Conferences upon recommendations from the Deacon body. Examinations of the new Deacons occurred through the following members of the New Deacons Committee: Tim Dykes (chair), Craig Bloodworth, Mark Brunson, Johnny Harper, Marvin McNeese, Allen O’Neal, Ron P’Pool, David Risinger, Tom Scurlock, Mike Skinner and Dr. Charles Poor, staff liaison.
The following men have gone through the Licensing & Ordination process at Houston's First and will be ordained into ministry of the Gospel. Ordination occurs after a candidate has been licensed and observed for a period of time by Houston's First staff and members. Ministerial ordination at Houston's First is the church's way of saying that we concur with the candidate and also believe that God is calling him into full-time career ministry for Jesus Christ. For more information about the process, contact Pam Collins.
“Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints.” – Psalm 116:15
These servants went on to Heaven between June 2017 and July 2018. We appreciate their love for the Lord and their service to our church.
Any member of Houston’s First Baptist Church may recommend a new Deacon candidate from the church family at any time. The New Deacons Committee guides each recommendation through a multi-step evaluation process which includes each nominee’s acceptance of I Timothy 3:1–13 and other requirements recognized by Houston’s First.
If, after you have prayed, you feel led to recommend a man who has been an active member of Houston’s First for at least one year, complete the New Deacon Candidate Recommendation Form. You can complete it online here, download a PDF here, or pick up a copy from the Pastor’s Office at The Loop Campus. Previously ordained Deacons must also be recommended and reviewed by the Committee prior to becoming an In-Service Deacon at Houston’s First.
