Being a Difference Maker is a natural expression of having an abiding relationship with Jesus. It is an overflow of the difference God has made in your life. And, being a Difference Maker is about being intentional in what you do and how you live your life. Not content to sit on the sidelines, Difference Makers are ready and willing to go in His name and play their part in changing the world.

Capturing the spirit of being a Difference Maker is the Difference Maker Declaration. This short, memorable statement written by Pastor Gregg reminds us of our calling as followers of Jesus Christ, and it asks God to continue using us to make a difference in His name.

Difference Maker Moments with Pastor Gregg are 1-minute messages that realize the first step to being a Difference Maker is having a difference made in you. Each moment encourages and equips believers to have an impact on the world in Jesus’ name — and each one can inspire non-believers to seek more about the difference-making Gospel. The goal? To live a life that reflects the Difference Maker Declaration.

Gregg Matte is the senior pastor at Houston’s First Baptist Church, a multisite church with four campuses in the greater Houston area.

Before coming to Houston in 2004, Gregg founded Breakaway Ministries as a student at Texas A&M University — the largest college Bible study in the nation. What started with 12 participants in his apartment grew to a weekly gathering of more than 4,000 students each Tuesday night under his leadership.

In addition toDifference Makers, Gregg is the author of Finding God’s Will, I AM Changes Who i Am, and Unstoppable Gospel. He has also written Bible study guides The Highest Education: Becoming a Godly Man and Birds and Bees: A Conversation about God, Sex, and Sexuality.

Outside of Houston's First, Gregg serves on the Boards of Houston Christian High School and Breakaway Ministries. He became the Chairman of the Board of Trustees at Houston Baptist University in October 2019.

Gregg holds a bachelor’s degree in marketing from Texas A&M and a master’s degree from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. In 2011, Gregg received the Outstanding Alumni Award from the Mays Business School at Texas A&M. He was the first pastor to receive the honor in the history of the award.

Gregg married Kelly in 1997 and together they have a son and a daughter, Greyson (2001) and Valerie (2008).

The Album

Connecting the heart of the book through song, the Difference Makers album joins the impact of the book and the repeatability of songs to create a powerful combination. The project features 10 original songs written by worship team members at Houston's First in collaboration with songwriters from LifeWay, Integrity, and Word Publishing. Among the songwriters was our own Pastor Gregg who co-wrote the title song — Difference Makers.
