I am an ordained minister and Deacon in the Southern Baptist church and a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Texas. I have a Master of Science in Counseling from University of Houston - Clear Lake. I also have a Master of Arts in Education Administration from University of Houston - Victoria. My Bachelor of Arts in Psychology is from Baylor University. The first part of my career was in construction management and the rest has been in education. These two experiences have helped me understand unique family dynamics. I regularly attend continuing education related to my field, as a counselor and educator. My passion is to work with families and couples towards understanding what God’s plan is for them. My formal education has prepared me to work with individuals (adults and children), marriages, families, and groups. My former wife of 39 years passed away due to COVID-19 complications. I have recently remarried, and we are working through all the facets of a blended family. This new experience has given me greater insight into a blended family relationships and responsibilities.
The counseling setting is a unique environment for everyone; therefore, clients need tailored treatment plans based on what is most beneficial to the individual or couple in helping accomplish their goals and understand their full potential in God’s plan. My training includes; Prepare/Enrich counseling for engaged couples, Gottman methods for couples and marriage counseling and Neurofeedback therapy. I prefer to use evidence-based treatments, blending my training in psychology with my experience in theology. The cognitive-behavioral approach focuses on thoughts and behaviors and sees emotions as the result or consequences of our thoughts. I utilize interventions from Gottman Level One, Cognitive Base Therapy, Family Systems Therapy, Gestalt Therapy, Logotherapy, Neurofeedback therapy, and Solution Focused Therapy based on the clients needs and desire.
