I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the State of Texas. I received my Masters of Arts in Marriage and Family Counseling at the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary, and I received my B.A. in Religion at Baylor University. My formal education has prepared me to work with individuals, families, and groups.
I believe counseling is a process in which the client and the counselor come to understand and trust one another, work as a team to explore and define present problem situations, develop future goals for an improved life, and work in a systemic fashion toward realizing those goals.
I have worked with clients on a variety of issues, and I have specialized in helping those with depression, anxiety, anger, codependency, sexual addictions, and sexual identity issues. I see such issues as symptoms of something deeper and my goal is to work with you to uncover those root issues. I also help those who have experienced sexual or emotional trauma at all levels. I have completed basic training in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) therapy to help in single-event, childhood, continuous, and recent trauma. My desire is to help provide a safe place to find real freedom and healing.
Along with EMDR therapy to help work through complex trauma, and I am also a Certified Sex Addiction Therapist (CSAT) to help with sexual and other behavioral addictions.
My counseling style is eclectic and an integrative approach, pulling from multiple facets of evidence-based techniques, such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).
As a Christian Counselor, I have a unique perspective for those who wish to approach their counseling experience through the lens of biblical truth. Though I am a Christian and work from a biblically informed perspective, my job is not to impose my values onto clients or change their own beliefs. I respect the religious beliefs of all persons and will work with anyone who is ready to work towards individual and relational growth.
