Generation One is a trans-denominational ministry located in the Third Ward of Houston, Texas and is committed to the spiritual growth and physical rebuilding of the impoverished areas of the Third Ward. Generation One offices locally in order to better understand the needs of the community and organize the response of those who have a heart to serve and volunteer their prayers, talents, resources, and sweat to improving the quality of life in this historical part of Houston.
A micro objective of our ministry is the Next Generation. We will focus a great deal of time, love, and education on the youth population. Generation One is committed to making sure that the next generation "Knows What Their Potential Is and Believes That They Can Achieve It!" To ensure this becomes a reality, we have set up an after school tutoring program as well as a mentoring program. We also use sports teams, counseling, professional tutoring, Bible studies, life skills classes and more to reach the next Generation.
On the macro level our focus is to improve the overall quality of life for residents in the Third Ward. Our goal is to tear down dilapidated homes and abandoned buildings while rehabilitating existing homes.
Each One Teach One Tutoring is always in need of more tutors. Our goal is to have 1 tutor per child, Monday – Thursday. Our need is to have tutors commit to coming the same day(s) each week so that we know how to plan for each day. No teaching experience necessary! Email email@example.com
Each One Reach One Mentoring is a yearlong commitment to spending a minimum of 4 hours a month with a child as well as checking in weekly by phone when possible. We match kids from age 5-18 and you can request the age range you are most comfortable with. A mentoring relationship can really change the life of a child, in a fairly small amount of time. Basketball: Generation One has multiple basketball teams and plays in several leagues around the city. Basketball is used as an avenue to bring the kids into a relationship with Christ and to teach leadership, teamwork and other life skills. Email Mike if you’re ready to join the team: email@example.com
Bring Out a Volunteer Team: Generation One hosts’ teams to do projects including trash pick-up, lot clearing, painting homes, home repairs, building wheel chair ramps and more. Our projects are planned around the size of your group and your skill level. Volunteer teams are encouraged to come out and help restore and clean up the area. We welcome groups of 10 to 500 volunteers to come out for a day or for a week. Email: firstname.lastname@example.org
