Metro exists to help young adults see the beauty of Jesus and seek to know him personally.
This mission is inspired by Psalm 27:4, where David proclaims his wholehearted desire to “gaze upon the beauty of the Lord and to inquire in his temple.”
Metro Bible Study – also known as “MetroLive” - initially started in 1994, with a simple vision in mind. A group of young adults dreamed of a place where young adults from across the Houston area could gather weekly to worship with one another and study God’s word.
This dream was soon realized as thousands of college students, singles, and married young adults in their 20-30s began gathering weekly to connect with God and one another. The Lord faithfully blessed this ministry for 20 years, providing a space for people to learn what it means to live for Jesus in their young adult years. In 2015, a decision was made to partner with The Porch - a young adults ministry in Dallas - as their first ever “Porch Live” location. During this time, the Metro team was able to learn from and serve alongside what’s become the largest young adult ministry of its kind in the nation.
After a 6-year journey with The Porch, Metro has officially returned! Our vision is no different than that of the first group of young adults: to be a place where young adults from across our city can come to worship Jesus, hear from His from word, and walk with him for a lifetime.
We often say that Metro is “From Houston // For Houston.” This is more than just a tagline; this is our heart. We believe God is moving in the lives of young adults in this city, and we can’t wait to see how He will continue to move in the days ahead.
We’d love for you to consider serving with us at Metro! Volunteer opportunities are set on a semester basis. If you'd like to apply, stay tuned on social media to know the next time volunteer applications are open! Our volunteer family is comprised of the following teams:
Connect — Volunteers seek to connect young singles to active discipleship and community through the church. They are knowledgeable about all Houston's First's LBS Classes and respective demographics, ongoing Summit activities, and are excited to advocate the importance of church participation.
Creative — Volunteers seek to lift high the name of Jesus and exhibit the ways in which he is moving through Metro. This includes capturing photo and video of Tuesday nights and other outings, coordinating production media on Tuesdays, and creating content and managing media.
Ops — Volunteers support and promote the excellence of the volunteer family by serving the physical needs for the operation of each volunteer team.
Prayer — Volunteers lead our people in dependence to Jesus by interceding on behalf of young singles through prayer. Prayer will take place at various times throughout the night including during the response time after the message.
Resource — Volunteers will provide young singles resources for their spiritual development and merchandise to promote what God is doing at Metro on Tuesday nights.
Welcome — Volunteers purposefully engage all Metro attendees with the joy of Jesus Christ, making them feel welcome and at home as they are greeted. Volunteers will also plan, organize, and execute Metro events such as Late Nights.
