Generation One

Off Campus

Who We Are:

Generation One’s Christ-centered, holistic ministry serves to champion systemic change in the education system, specifically, in early childhood education. Our goal is to create an equitable landscape, that allows for equal opportunity to learn and grow, no matter what zip code a child lives in. Our vision is to impact the future of Houston by empowering children to reach their fullest potential.

What We Do:

For 13 years, we have served the children and families of the Third Ward, an under-resourced population living among high crime and poverty. The effects of poverty and a detrimental environment create deficits in development for children, age zero to five years, which cause greater problems later in education and in life. Working with families and children, early in the lives of the children, we are creating opportunities for these children to learn, to grow, and to thrive. Our ministry includes:

  • Generation One Academy, tuition-free early childhood education center;
  • Step It Up, after-school and summer program; and
  • Empowered Families, emotional support/therapy/counseling for children and families.

Our holistic model, driven by trauma-informed and social-emotional learning, runs through each of the three programs. Generation One provides children from age two through middle school with a consistent foundation for success in the critical years of education.
