Common Questions

What should I wear?
Where do I park?
Will I find a seat?
Is there something for my kids?

Maybe you are returning to church, or coming to church for the very first time. Or, maybe you're an active church member who just moved to town and needs to find a new church home. Whatever your story may be, you probably have a lot of questions before you visit Houston's First Baptist Church.

Here are some common questions we hear about what to expect on a Sunday at Houston's First. If we've missed something, let us know! You're probably not the only one with that question, so asking us will help us help you and future guests.

What is your Sunday schedule?

The Sunday schedule varies from campus to campus, and we have both online and on-campus worship available. Visit the Gather Online or On Campus page to find the right fit for you and your family.

What do I wear?

You'll see people in everything from shorts to suits on Sundays. Our concern isn't what's on the outside, but what's on inside. Come as you are. Jesus accepts us as we are when we come to Him. Why shouldn't we?

Where do I park?

At The Loop Campus, we set aside reserved parking for first-time guests in our west parking lot — conveniently across the street from our main entrance. Parking lot attendants will direct you to a spot just for you. General parking is also available in other parts of the west and south parking lots, and we even have shuttle parking nearby on Sunday mornings.

Is there anything for my children?

Visit the Gather Online or On Campus page to learn what is available as well as the NextGen Returns page to see about the measures we've taken to ensure the safety of your children.

How will I find a Bible study?

Take a look at our online listing of Studies & Classes. You can filter out the exact criteria for classes you'd like that should give you a good idea where you want to go. On Sunday, stop by the Welcome Centers in the Main Foyer and the Fitness & Recreation Center Lobby. A Welcome Team member can show you a listing of Life Bible Studies, including a map of where each one is located. Believe us — our goal is get every guest and member into a Life Bible Study so we'll go out of our way to help you get connected!

Your building is huge. How will I find my way around?

While there are plenty of signs around that can help you find your way, the best option is to stop by the Welcome Center in the Main Foyer or the Fitness & Recreation Center Lobby. Our volunteer Welcome Team members (in snazzy blue shirts) will love to show you where you're going — and even walk with you to make sure you find your way. And of course, you can ask just about anybody you see — snazzy blue shirt or not — for help getting to where you want to go! On top of that, our Bible study option sheet handout includes maps of the building.

In the church I grew up in, some people had "their" seats. What if I unknowingly sit in somebody's seat?

Don't worry about it. Sit wherever you want. Nobody has a claim on a seat. In fact, we'll even let you save seats for your family and friends!

May I bring my venti, three-pump vanilla, two-pump caramel, non-fat, no foam, extra hot, upside-down, stirred, extra-extra caramel drizzle, caramel machiatto into church?

Yes — but only if you bring one for the rest of us. (Just kidding, of course. Kinda.) Yes, you may bring your drink with you, but why not save your money and get coffee at church? We have free coffee stations around the church on Sunday mornings and have great premium coffees at CornerBooks for a small donation! We simply ask that you finish your coffee and other food or drinks before entering the Worship Center or Chapel for the worship services.
